Harriston is a close-knit rural community with a proud tradition of service, volunteerism, and neighbourly support. Rooted in agriculture and strengthened by generations of families, Harriston values remembrance, community spirit, and coming together to support one another. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 296 has long been an important gathering place, hosting events, ceremonies, and programs that bring residents together while honouring those who have served Canada.

Together, Harriston and Clifford form a strong, supportive region where remembrance, service, and community involvement continue to play an important role in everyday life.
The Salute a Veteran banner program is a community-focused initiative that honours the service and sacrifice of local Veterans by displaying large commemorative banners throughout town.
Heroes Remember is an online collection of video and audio interviews conducted by Veterans Affairs Canada that preserves the personal stories of Canadian Veterans in their own words.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 296 Poppy Fund Bursary Program provides financial assistance to eligible students from the Harriston and Clifford area who are pursuing post-secondary education.
